Joy Curry’s playa profile is ….Joy! She loves her name and it fits her well! 

She has been an active participant in the Burning Man community since she learned about it from a man on a bus in Costa Rica. He pulled out his laptop and showed all of these pics of this crazy thing called Burning man! 

Joy attended her first burn (AfterBurn at Lake Wales) on 4/20/2006. She felt like she was dreaming and fell in love with freedom and the festival even though it took her 3 hours to learn how to use a hula hoop! 

She attended her first Big Burn in 2010 after traveling and couch surfing all over Asia for an entire year. She volunteered with the Couch Surfing camp and enjoyed learning how the burn operated. 

Afterward, she moved to India and started an online business, and became a virtual assistant before it was even a thing. After living in India for 9 years and Colombia, South America for one year Joy moved back to Florida, with her 4-year-old son.

She attended her next burn in beautiful Monticello, where she attended Florida en Fuego with her son. She volunteered to be a ranger and enjoyed the craziness of keeping the peace while chilling like a villain and making people smile. 

Joy introduced her partner to Afterburn in 2022 and now it’s a family tradition. She has been a Pear member of Burnt Oranges and attended almost every event since Covid. 

She is well versed in small business practices, research, sales and effective management of small teams. She is looking forward to participating in bringing Afterburn back, better and stronger. 

She excels at thinking outside of the box and making the impossible possible.

Fun Fact: Joy has visited 51 countries and lived overseas for 14 years.
