About The Org

About Us

Burnt Oranges Inc. is a Florida-based, participation-driven arts nonprofit dedicated to creative participation, connection, and collective care. Founded in 2008 and formally established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and Florida Non-Profit Corporation in 2010, Burnt Oranges exists to support people who actively create art, culture, and shared experience together.

From its earliest gatherings to its present-day projects, Burnt Oranges has been shaped by the belief that meaningful connection is built through participation, accountability, and imagination. Art is not passive, culture is not fixed, and the work of building relationships is ongoing.

Who We Are

Burnt Oranges is operated entirely by a working Board of Directors. The organization has no paid staff or employees and is sustained through volunteer leadership and shared responsibility. Board members contribute time, labor, and care to support the organization’s health, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

This structure reflects Burnt Oranges’ values of service-based leadership, collaboration over hierarchy, and a willingness to do the work required to support a thriving creative ecosystem.

Our Community

Burnt Oranges brings together artists, builders, performers, organizers, and participants from a wide range of lived experiences and intersectional identities. Our work is grounded in an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework.

As the oldest Burning Man Regional organization in the state of Florida, Burnt Oranges draws on nearly twenty years of regional collaboration, experimentation, and care. We actively practice all ten of the Burning Man Principles, along with an eleventh principle: Consent. These principles guide how space is created, how relationships are formed, and how decisions are made.

Consent is foundational to safety, respect, and trust, and informs how events are planned, how participants are supported, and how harm is addressed. Our aim is to foster environments where people can show up authentically, engage thoughtfully, and participate creatively and responsibly.

How We Move Forward

Burnt Oranges is guided by a clear mission, vision, and set of goals centered on equity, sustainability, and connection. These principles are living commitments that evolve alongside our work.

Building an equitable, creative, and connected organization requires listening, adaptation, and care. Burnt Oranges welcomes collaboration, shared leadership, and thoughtful critique as part of its ongoing development.

An Invitation

Burnt Oranges invites artists, volunteers, organizers, and participants to engage, contribute, and co-create. The organization thrives because people choose to participate fully, support one another, and imagine new possibilities through shared effort.

Burnt Oranges is a practice rooted in participation and shared responsibility.
